Legislation that affects CURRENT AND FUTURE pet ownership, showing, breeding and grooming is an ongoing battle at Local, State and Federal levels of our government. It is imperative that everyone who owns pets and/or livestock keep abreast of current issues. Legislative changes are not always focused on "just" business-industry, or people who show-compete and breed with the animals that we love, it is also focused on and can affect YOU, the loving pet owner.
It is EVERYONE'S responsibility to educate ourselves on current legislative proposals and changes at all levels of our government. At times it is difficult to track or know of changes as ordinances and initiatives are introduced quietly "under the radar". Once they are adopted it is very difficult, some times impossible, to reverse. Responsible pet ownership is key and part of that responsibility is to stay aware of current issues.
Below is a list of well known and reliable organizations who's purpose is to track and keep the concerned public aware of current legislative proposals and changes that can affect all of us and our animals. SDBC makes every attempt to keep this list current and available as a service to you. We could list items of concern on our pages, but through experience we have found that the organizations listed below have better success providing up-to-date information as that is their sole purpose and mission. SAOVA.org Sportmen's and Animal Owners' Voting Alliance is the only national group working to protect both sportsmen and animal owners, natural allies, in the legislative and political arenas. SAOVA's members hunt, fish and own livestock, dogs, cats and other pets. SAOVA study political candidates in all states to identify those who understand and resist the AR threat, as well as those who are in the pocket of the Animal Rightists.
AKC.org The American Kennel Club - this will link directly to the Government page of the AKC site where legislative initiatives and concerns are continuously monitored in every state.

NAIA The National Animal Interest Alliance is an association of business, agricultural, scientific, and recreational interests dedicated to promoting animal welfare, supporting responsible animal use and strengthening the bond between humans and animals. Our members are pet owners, dog and cat clubs, obedience clubs and rescue groups as well as breeders, trainers, veterinarians, research scientists, farmers, fishermen, hunters and wildlife biologists. The membership roster of NAIA includes some of America's most respected animal professionals, advocates and enthusiasts.
